Author Topic: Notification on read-only files  (Read 12597 times)

If you open a file 'read-only', Code Editor will allow you to make changes and only tell you there is a problem AFTER you try to save it.

Is there a way to change the behavior to notify you as soon as you begin making changes that the file is read-only, thereby giving you a chance to check the file out of RCS BEFORE you edit it?

Thanks

Hi Tim,

You're right, when you open a read-only file you'll be notified about it when saving the file. Many editors behave like that. There's no way to change this behaviour at the moment, but a new feature request has been filed on this issue: #Fz.2574 (Display a notification when opening a read-only file).

Thanks
Romain

Hi Romain,

Notification at the time you open the file would be nice also but that is not what I was referring to. I am talking about a notification as soon as you try to EDIT a file that has been opened read-only. With the first keystroke that would cause the file to be marked as changed in the editor, give a notification that the file is currently read-only. This would also be a good place to offer to check the file out of the revision control system, if possible.

Thanks again,
